Once again, one of the experts from our Research & Development Department is here to answer our questions: molecular biologist and biotechnologist Laura Sonnleitner, who is responsible for the product, FRESH ADDS glow.

Is air that contains environmental pollution really bad for my skin?
These days, environmental pollution is seen as one of the main causes of premature skin ageing, alongside genetic factors. The air that we breathe is heavily polluted by car exhaust fumes, soot particles from heating, particulates, tobacco smoke and industry, particularly in cities. Often enough, the particles that get into the air and are very harmful to our skin are not even visible to the naked eye. Particles with an average size of 2.5 µm – around twice the size of a bacteria – are considered to be the most harmful to our skin. The result may be inflammations, premature wrinkles and unattractive pigment spots. These particles are so small that they can penetrate the skin, particularly if the skin barrier is damaged, and cause oxidative stress there. Studies have show that particulates in the air can impair the biosynthesis of collagen, the substance that gives us firm, taut skin.
How can I protect myself?
Apart from cleansing the skin every day, what’s most important is to strengthen your body’s own skin barrier. If this is damaged, it is easier for harmful particles (and germs) to penetrate the skin. Meticulously selected care products can strengthen the skin barrier and help to promote the regeneration of irritated skin, and reduce or prevent further damage. With FRESH ADDS glow, we are protected against negative environmental influences by a special anti-pollution substance from white horehound with a high concentration of Forsythoside B, a secondary plant substance. The extract can neutralise environmental toxins that can harm the body’s own proteins and lipid structures; it stimulates the skin’s own natural antioxidative processes, and protects skin cells from being penetrated by dirt particles by strengthening and repairing the skin’s barrier function.
This makes the skin purer, the complexion more radiant and improves the condition of the skin.
What substance is responsible for that special glow and makes my skin radiant?
Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, has an exceptionally positive effect on stressed skin. It smooths the skin tone by minimising and evening out age and pigment spots. That’s because it can reduce the transport of pigment cells containing melanin to the uppermost skin layer. This can reduce the occurrence of pigment spots and/or improve the look of existing ones. Niacinamide also protects the skin against water loss and stimulates the production of ceramides and cholesterol which are important elements of the skin barrier. This makes the skin fresher, plumper and more radiant. Glucosyl hesperidin, a special bioflavonoid from citrus fruits is also responsible for radiant skin. This substance stimulates the skin’s microcirculation and this boosts its supply with nutrients and oxygen, and promotes the elimination of metabolic products that are no longer required. Lacklustre skin becomes fresher looking. The additional antioxidative effect of the raw material protects against free radicals in the ambient air and helps stressed tissue to regenerate.
What is the best way to use FRESH ADDS glow?
Depending on what your skin needs, combine the product with either FRESH hydro serum for intense hydration, or with FRESH anti wrinkle serum for a smoother complexion. It is important that you only use FRESH ADDS glow in conjunction with one of these two serums and do not apply it undiluted to your skin. The substances and their levels of concentration are designed to be used with a serum. The products work in synergy to produce an even better end result.
